College Fjord

Pictures taken from the cruise ship. This fjord contains 5 tidewater glaciers (glaciers that terminate in water), 5 large valley glaciers, and dozens of smaller glaciers most named after renowned East Coast colleges.

Glacier Bay National Park

The only access to this National Park is via boat or plane. There are no roads to Glacier Bay National Park. The park is located just 15 miles from the Canadian border. There are a total of 11 glaciers in the park of which 7 are tidewater glaciers.

The bridge shown below is only attached on one side due to earthquakes. Several times the State has shifted the road to compensate. If the bridge was attached on both sides, it would have fallen several times.

Tracy Arm

Pictures are from the cruise ship. Tracy arm is a fjord about 45 miles south of Juneau. The wilderness area contains 653,179 acres and has 2 deep water narrow fjords. Both fjords are over 30 miles long and one-fifth of the area is covered in ice.

Denali

Formerly called Mt McKinley, is inside the Denali National Park. It is the highest mountain peak in North America at 20,310 feet.
